Gail A. Barker, M.D.

Dr. Barker is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.  She is board certified in psychiatry.  Her areas of interest include a broad range of psychological/psychiatric problems including:  anxiety and mood disorders; trauma; and the special issues that affect women, physicians, therapists, and other caretakers.  She offers services in adult outpatient psychiatry, EMDR, and psychoanalysis.  Professional societies and groups with which she is affiliated include both the American Psychiatric and the American Psychoanalytic associations, and Women Writing for a Change, from whose Feminist Leadership Academy she graduated in 2006.


Cheryl M. Beach, Ph.D.

Dr. Beach completed her doctorate in cognitive psychology at the University of Wisconsin.  She earned a second doctorate in clinical psychology while completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California.  She is a licensed psychologist with many years of experience in clinical assessment and counseling, and she has held teaching, research, and administrative faculty positions at distinguished universities.  Dr. Beach offers comprehensive evaluation services (psychological and educational) for adults and children with recommendations for goal attainment.  Psychotherapy interests include personal growth, relationship issues, depression, stress, and adjustment to life transition and loss.  LGBTQ are welcome.


Tamara M. Campbell, M.D., Psy.D.

Dr. Campbell is a graduate of the Boonshoft School of Medicine and the School of Professional Psychology, Wright State University.  She completed her psychiatric residency training at the University of Cincinnnati and clinical psychology residency training with the United States Airforce, Wright Patterson Airforce Base.  She is Board Certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  Dr. Campbell was a licensed clinical psychologist for twelve years before completing her medical training.  Her areas of clinical interest include PTSD, social phobia, and mood disorders.  Areas of research interest include neurocognitive sequalae in social phobia.  She has special training in cognitive behavioral therapies, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, and hypnotherapy.  She received level 1 training in hypnotherapy at the Menninger Clinic.  She has advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and has special interest in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.  She holds memberships in the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, Ohio Psychiatric Association, and American Psychoanalytic Association.

William P. Carney, M.D.

Dr. Carney is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School.  He is board certified in both psychiatry and psychoanalysis.  His areas of interest include mood and anxiety disorders, couples therapy, and psychoanalysis.  Professional societies he is affiliated with are the Ohio Psychiatric Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Psychoanalytic Association.

Janet D. Castellini, Psy.D., C.S.


Dr. Castellini completed her doctorate in clinical psychology at Xavier University.  She completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the VA in Organization Development.  She has completed advanced training in Dissociative Disorders through ISSTD; EMDR Levels I & II through EMDRIA; Advanced Gestalt Psychotherapy Training with the Cincinnati Gestalt Institute and a fellowship in Aging with the American Psychological Association.  She is a member of the Advanced Psychotherapy Training Program at Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.  A Licensed Psychologist, Dr. Castellini has held faculty and research positions with University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, and the Athenaeum of Ohio.  Psychotherapy interests include Trauma, Abuse, PTSD, Mood Disorders, Issues Effecting Women including postpartum depression, infertility and life transitions; Personal and Executive Counseling.

Meicheng Chiang, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Chiang received her Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from Purdue University.  She taught Biological Science at Antioch College and subsequently changed her career path to medicine.  She received her M.D. from The Ohio State University College of Medicine.  She completed her psychiatric residency training at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.  She is Board Certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  Dr. Chiang's research interests range from basic biological science to psychiatric illness.  Her treatment for her psychiatric patients  involves a combination of pharmacological therapy and psychotherapy.  Her psychotherapy approaches include cognitive behavior, psychodynamic and supportive psychotherapy, whichever proves to be appropriate and effective under the circumstances.  The patient populations she has helped include children with ADHD, adolescents with social anxiety, adults with personality disorders, couples with marital conflicts and seniors with depression.  Her professional affiliations are the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association and the Ohio Psychiatric Association.



Brett H. Clarke, M.S.W.

Mr. Clarke received his master’s degree in social work from the University of Chicago.  He is currently a Director of the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute (CPI), where he graduated from the adult analytic training program, and where he co-leads CPI's post-graduate child and adolescent training program.  Mr. Clarke specializes in psychotherapy for adults, adolescents, and children, as well as in couples treatment, and in psychoanalysis, and he has headed clinical treatment teams in the areas of sexual abuse and child therapy.  Mr. Clarke is on the faculty at CPI and is volunteer faculty with the UC Department of Psychiatry.  He has published in the area of psychoanalytic theory.  Professional affiliations include the American Psychoanalytic Association and The Association for Child Psychoanalysis.


Anne Dudley, M.S.W.

Anne Dudley completed her baccalaureate at Depauw University and her graduate work in clinical social work at Smith College School for Social Work where she received her M.S.W.  She received advanced training in couple and family therapy.  She was trained in chemical dependency treatment at the Alcoholism Clinic at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  Ms. Dudley also completed the Advanced Psychotherapy Training Program at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.  She is a Board Certified Diplomate with the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work.  Ms. Dudley's areas of interest include the treatment of anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma-related disorders and relationship problems.  Her work with individuals, couples and families includes seeing children, adolescents, and adults.



Bernard B. Foster, M. D.

Dr. Foster is a graduate of Duke University and of the McGill University Faculty of Medicine.  He completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and psychoanalytic training at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry. Areas of interest are mood and anxiety disorders and psychic trauma.  He offers services in adult medical psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.  His teaching interests are in psychotherapy and ethics.  He has served as President of the Ohio Psychiatric Association and as Assembly Representative in the American Psychiatric Association.


Noel Free, M.D.

Dr. Free, a graduate of the University of  North Carolina Medical School in Chapel Hill, completed his pediatric residency at the University of Washington, psychiatric residency at the University of Cincinnati, and psychoanalytic training at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.  He served as the Director of Psychotherapy Training for the UC Department of Psychiatry for 23 years.  His main interest is in working with patients to figure out what combination of treatment strategies (including psychoanalytic, cognitive, behavioral, and/or medication) will be most helpful to them.


Elizabeth Gilday, M.D.

Dr. Gilday is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  She completed her psychiatric residency training at the University of Cincinnati.  Her areas of clinical interest include anxiety and mood disorders, with treatment involving psychotherapy and medication management.  She holds memberships in the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the Ohio Psychiatric Association.

Clayton K. Gotwals, M.D.

Dr. Gotwals graduated from Temple University School of Medicine and then completed general psychiatry residency training at the University of Cincinnati.  He is board certified in general psychiatry and in psychoanalysis, and is a training and supervising psychoanalyst.  He is a Director and Dean of the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.  His interests are anxiety and mood disorders, relationship problems, and reactions to trauma.  He is affiliated with the American Psychoanalytic Association.


Richard G. Honig, M.D.

Dr. Honig is a graduate of Brown University and Albany Medical College.  He is a board certified psychiatrist trained in adult, child, and adolescent psychiatry.  He is a training and supervising analyst at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute, where he has served as both Dean and Director.  Dr. Honig’s published research focuses on the study of the long-term effects of emotional trauma suffered in childhood and adolescence.  In his practice he sees children, adolescents, and adults in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.  He also works with parents around child rearing concerns.

Dr. Jones received her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  After graduating from medical school she completed her psychiatric residency training at the University of Cincinnati.  Dr. Jones has advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy.  Her treatment approach combines both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology to provide comprehensive care.  Her areas of clinical interest include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and women's health issues including post partum depression.  Dr. Jones holds professional memberships in the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Associaton, and Ohio Psychiatric Association.

Marcia Kaplan, M.D.

Dr. Kaplan is a graduate of Southwestern Medical School.  She completed neurology training at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, psychiatry training at the University of Cincinnati (UC), and psychoanalytic training at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute (CPI).  She is board certified in psychiatry and in psychoanalysis. Dr. Kaplan directs the Advanced Psychotherapy Program at CPI, and is an associate professor of Clinical Psychiatry at UC.  Her clinical interests include treatment of depression and anxiety with combined psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic approaches.


Velissarios Karacostas, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Karacostas is a psychiatrist who provides psychiatric evaluations for adults, adolescents and children as well as treatment utilizing psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, group therapy and psychopharmacology.  His areas of interest include ADHD, depression, anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, eating disorders, somatoform disorders and trauma.  Dr. Karacostas holds an M.D. from the Eastern Virginia Medical School and a Ph.D. in molecular genetics from the George Washington University.  He completed a psychiatric residency at the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine.  He is board certified in Psychiatry as well as Child & Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  He has had psychoanalytic training through the Topeka Institute for Psychoanalysis and the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.  For more than 8 years he provided psychiatric consultations to elementary and middle schools and directed the Psychiatric Consultation-Liaison service for patients hospitalized on medical units at Cincinnati Children's Hospital (CCHMC).  Since 2005 he has been involved in the CCHMC pediatric ADHD collaborative aimed at educating and empowering community pediatricians on the treatment of ADHD and co-morbid disorders.  He is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Rena L. Kay, M.D.

Dr. Kay is a graduate of  Brandeis University and of the University of Maryland School of Medicine.  She completed her general and child psychiatry training at the University of Cincinnati, and completed her psychoanalytic training at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute, where she is a training and supervising analyst.  She is clinical professor of child and adult psychiatry at Wright State University, and holds a faculty appointment at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  She is board certified in Psychiatry, and has been appointed a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.  Her areas of clinical interest include mood disorders, women's issues, and  psychological trauma.  Areas of research interest include adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, neurobiology of psychotherapy, and psychobiology of trauma.


Edward I. Kohn, M.D.

Dr. Kohn graduated from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons,   then completed a residency in general psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati.  He graduated from the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute (CPI) in adult psychoanalysis and from the New Orleans Psychoanalytic Institute in child psychoanalysis.  Dr. Kohn is board certified in psychiatry and psychoanalysis and is a training and supervising analyst at CPI, where he is currently a Director.  His practice consists of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis with adults, adolescents, and children.


Jacob D. Lindy, M.D.

Dr. Lindy’s special area of interest is the treatment, research, and forensic implications of traumatic stress.  He is also an experienced psychiatric and psychoanalytic educator.  He has written over 65 papers in these areas, and has edited and co- edited four books, the most recent involving East European therapists and their traumatized patients (with Robert Lifton).  Dr. Lindy is a training and supervising analyst at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.  He trained at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute, Cincinnati General Hospital, Columbia medical school, and Yale University.  He is winner of the Harding Hospital award for teaching excellence and the Sarah Haley award for clinical excellence in trauma.


Robert Lubow, M.D.

Dr. Lubow, a graduate of the State University of New York, Downstate, is Board Certified in psychiatry.  His areas of interest are mood and anxiety disorders, marital and sexual problems, and self-esteem issues.  His treatment orientation is a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, and marital therapy approaches.  Professional societies with which he is affiliated include:  American Psychiatric Association; American Psychoanalytic Association; American Association for Sexual Education Counseling and Therapy; Society for Sex Therapy and Research; and Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati.


Michael J. Maloney, M.D.

Dr. Maloney had an endowed professorship at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and for twenty years directed the Psychiatry Department at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  He is board certified in general psychiatry and child psychiatry.

He has the following areas of interest:  depression; eating disorders; psychopharmacology; anxiety; attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder; and stress.  He offers services in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry, and in psychoanalysis.


John T. Niehaus, M.S.W.

Mr. Niehaus' areas of interest include family, couple, individual and group psychotherapy for a wide variety of problems including relationship issues, anxiety and depression, post traumatic stress and chemical and behavioral addictions.  Mr. Niehaus has been certified in the use of E.M.D.R. since 1995 and has used this approach in his work with trauma survivors.  He also offers executive coaching, team building and consulting services to businesses, including family businesses, using a systemic approach.   Mr. Niehaus is a graduate of Xavier University and the Ohio State University School of Social Work.  He is a member of the American Family Therapy Academy, an approved supervisor in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and a founding member of the Association of Certified Group Psychotherapists.  He is a Volunteer Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the U.C. Department of Psychiatry.

Melvyn M. Nizny, M.D., D.L.F.

Dr. Nizny graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he also completed a psychiatry residency and occupational psychiatry fellowship.  He is board certified in psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.  He is a past president of the Ohio Psychiatric Association, and is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.  He has nearly forty years performing general, occupational, and forensic consultations, and thirty-five years of both inpatient and outpatient practice.  He also served as a psychiatrist in the US Army with Vietnam service.  His current practice is limited to independent psychiatric consultations, including work for law enforcement agencies, and for aviation and other industries.


Samuel T. Robertson, M.D.

Dr. Robertson graduated from Dartmouth College and Case Western Medical School, completed a psychiatric residency and a fellowship in child psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati, adult psychoanalytic training at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute, and child psychoanalytic training at the Baltimore/Washington Psychoanalytic Institute. Treating adults, adolescents, and children with a wide range of diagnoses, he has a particular interest in helping patients discover, understand, and get beyond what interferes with their reaching and enjoying their emotional and other potentials.


Aimee J. Rusk, M.D.

Dr. Rusk completed her residency training at the University of Cincinnati and is board certified in psychiatry.  Her areas of interest include depression, anxiety, obesity, and relationship problems.  She offers services in psychotherapy and medication management for adult outpatients.  Dr. Rusk is a member of the American Society of Psychoanalytic Physicians and the American Psychiatric Association.


Janice Singerman, M.D.

Dr. Singerman is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  She was a board certified family practitioner for ten years before completing an additional residency in Psychiatry and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.  Dr. Singerman is also a graduate of the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.  She is board certified in psychiatry, and in child and adolescent psychiatry.  Special interests include: psychotherapy and psychopharmacological management of trauma, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, psychosomatic illness, attention deficit disorder, and psychoanalysis.  Professional memberships include:  American Psychoanalytic Association; American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; Cincinnati Psychiatric Society; Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Council of Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio.


William L. Tedford, M.D.

Dr. Tedford received his medical degree from the Wright State University School of Medicine.  He completed a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati, and is board certified in both specialties.  His areas of clinical interest include anxiety and mood disorders, psychological trauma, and ADHD with associated co-morbid disorders.  In his treatment of children, adolescents and adults, Dr. Tedford uses psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral psychotherapeutic approaches, as well as psychopharmacological interventions.  Professional memberships include the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

James H. Thomas, M.D.

Dr. Thomas received his medical degree and completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and went on to complete his psychoanalytic training at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.  Services offered include psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, psychiatric legal consultation, and psychopharmacology.  Professional interests psychoanalysis and spirituality, and the supervision and teaching of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.  Professional memberships include Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Society, American Psychoanalytic Association, Cincinnati Psychiatric Society, Ohio Psychiatric Association, and American Psychiatric Association.


Ann Wierwille, M.D.

Dr. Wierwille is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she also completed the residency program in psychiatry.  She completed psychoanalytic training at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute (CPI) and has been in private practice for twenty-five years, offering psychiatric and psychoanalytic services to adults.  She is currently on the faculty of  CPI and is a member of the American Psychoanalytic and the American Psychiatric associations.  Her particular area of interest is gender-related developmental issues throughout the life cycle.


Carol L. Willis, M.D.

Dr. Willis is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.  She completed a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati.  She is board certified in psychiatry.  She has been in private practice in Cincinnati since 1983 - treating adults, children and adolescents.  She uses psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological approaches to treat a broad range of problems including issues with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships and parenting.  She is a member of the American Psychiatric Society, Ohio Psychiatric Society, Cincinnati Psychiatric Society, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Council of Cincinnati and Dayton.
